Doodle Dream Studio Presents CLM 1, a coloring book compilation of unique drawings created by a thus far unknown Mid Century Modern artist named Charles L. Massey (1924-1975).  Charlie’s career in aerospace dynamics during a pivotal time in history fueled his imagination to the extent that he sketched and doodled futuristic flying ships and fantastical creatures until the end of his life at age 50.  He also used oils to paint several large artworks in vibrant color that graced the walls of his California home.  Charlie’s immediate family saved the bulk of his drawings over the years, and eventually they were passed down to his only granddaughter Heather Massey.

 

Heather, with the help of Charlie’s son Warren and daughter Jackie (Heather’s father and aunt respectively), has used her background in graphic design to prepare 35 of Charlie’s original works to include in their newly published adult coloring book CLM 1: VINTAGE MCM SCI FI DRAWINGS TO COLOR AND COLLECT, the first in their planned CLM series.  Each original drawing is in grayscale with numerous clear areas to color, interleaved with pastel color wheel pages to aid coloring artists with their palettes.  

The printed book itself is sized at 8.5 x 11 and has 76 facing pages, including an introduction.

 

It is the Massey family’s sincere hope that the public will both enjoy and be inspired by Charlie’s surrealistic Mid Century Modern art’s debut in an interactive and creative format.
